My Chick Bad, Badder Than Yours
“Girl crush” is the popular term used by heterosexual women to express their likeness or infatuation, usually with an uber successful, beautiful and well-known woman in her field. Not sure the term would really apply to women you know in real life without people starting to question your sexual orientation. Then again some women are just so damn fabulous you can’t help but to fawn over them; even if it’s someone you know.
My girl crushes are usually much more about what the woman has accomplished, her intelligence, her ideologies, how she expresses her views, her spirit, and less about her beauty. Basically she’s someone aspiring and makes me think, ‘that’s a bad sister right there!’
In a society obsessed with popular culture we are bombarded everyday with the world of Hollywood, which has seeped into our culture. Through celebrities; Eurocentric images of beauty; African-American standards of beauty(big booty, thick thighs, big breasts); wives of athletes; jump offs; women who have done a mound of nothing, but are famous with hundreds of thousands of admirers (*cough* Amber Rose *cough*), black women never escape the criticism of an oppressive and sexist world telling us who we should be and everything that is wrong with us.
Because our country values the mundane, rich and famous, sometimes I wonder to myself, ‘why the hell did I go to school to get this Master’s degree when I could have just moved to Miami, been in the right place at the right time and met a baller.’ I mean let’s face it, Amber Rose’s life appears far more glamorous, and she’ll probably make more money as a JO than I’ll ever see in a lifetime.
In the midst of the basketball wives whom we shake our heads at, but watch faithfully every Sunday night; I realized that groupies, jumpoffs, baby mamas and even wives of any man with money are getting a bad rep. Automatically it is assumed these women are digging for gold and looking for a come up. I’ve yet to hear a nare complaint about the men who sleep with the women unprotected, thus impregnating her. Nor have I heard a word about the men who wife these women knowing they had nothing going for themselves prior to meeting him. So excuse me if I side with the women and have no sympathy for a man who willingly chose who he engaged in relations with.
With that said, it is so refreshing to see a new face on the arms of hip hop veteran, hence, my girl crush.

Her presence overshadows the self-righteous attitudes of the women who blame the groupies for their husband’s indiscretions. She also is an example of the caliber of women some of the other power player athletes and rappers should be obtaining; if they could pull a chic like her. I’m not so sure many of them have the intellect to hold a conversation with this type of woman. Yes, these women exist. And many of them want to help bring bacon to the table, not just eat it up and then ask for yours too.
He didn’t lie when he rapped, “My chick bad, better than yours.”
I’m talking about Ludacris’s new girl Eudoxie. Gorgeous is not the word for the natural beauty this woman possesses. I am certain she would have no problems landing a modeling contract; if that was something she wanted to pursue. But baby girl has no time for modeling. She’s too busy with her head in those MEDICAL books. Eudoxie attends the Miller School of Medicine at the University of Miami. Furthermore, she is bilingual and is said to write all of her Facebook statuses in French. Could she be any more dope?!
I have always been a fan of Luda. He is one of the rappers who creatively produces music that does more than glorify a thug lifestyle. Intelligence is obviously important to him when choosing a significant other. This is apparent through the mother of his daughter Karma, who is a well known attorney in Atlanta. I ain’t mad at you Luda!
Of course I don’t know much else about Eudoxie, her character, her beliefs, or family upbringing. And in comparison to some of my other girl crushes she may not have accomplished as much as the others. But the fact that she is black (African from what I hear) and in medical school, that’s enough for me. In every picture I’ve seen her in she is wearing something chic and elegant defining her level of class.
There may be hundreds of other athletes or rappers wives that are college educated or intellectual nerds at heart. But we don’t ever see those women. Instead we see the constant images and like-mindedness of the women thirsty for fame.
Why as a culture do we glorify “basketball wives,” when in actuality only one of them is married? Do they give the rest of us a bad rep when one of the criteria on our checklist is that he’s financially stable, even though we have our own? And what is it about rich black men who would rather get with a former stripper in opposed to a chick with the MBA looking to own the company? Has intelligence been traded for trashiness?
As for Luda and Eudoxie, I hope these other rappers and athletes take notes. You can have the beauty, brains, banging body and someone who is out there grinding for hers. But when you consistently choose from the bottom of the barrel, don’t whine when they’re getting a TV show and taking you to the cleaners in court.
I dare somebody to call Eudoxie a gold digger.
